The man with the Cat mask

Manchmal erlebt man....oder ich schon merkwürdige Sachen. Spät am Abend, es war schon richtig dunkel, ging ich durch einen Vorort von Berlin Richtung S-.Bahn Station. An einem etwas leeren Stück Strasse, der Name ist mir entfallen, kam ich an einem einzeln stehenden Haus vorbei. In dem Augenblick, wo ich dieses Haus passierte, öffnete sich die Tür und ein Mann mit einer großen Katzenmaske und freiem Oberkörper kam auf die Strasse und lief weiter an mir vorbei in die Nacht. Als er auf gleicher Höhe mit mir war, vermeinte ich ein leises Schnurren zu hören und gleich danach ein "Miau". Erstaunt drehte ich mich noch einmal um, da ich meinen Ohren nicht ganz traute...aber da war die Figur auch schon verschwunden. Zur gleichen Zeit rannte aus dem Haus ein kleiner Junge mit spitz aufsteigenden Haaren und einer völlig konfusen Miene und fing an zu schreien. dann rannte er weiter und verschwand in der dunklen Strasse. Im Haus war es absolut still und kein Geräusch drang an mein gespannt lauschendes Ohr. Sicher hatte ich mal wieder ein Glas Rotwein zu viel getrunken...das war einfach unfassbar. Aber so ist eben Berlin. 

Sometimes you or better I has experienced ....with strange things. Late in the evening, it was really dark, I walked toward the S-Bahn station through a suburb of Berlin. On a bit empty stretch of road, the name I have forget it, I passed an lonely house. In the moment when I passed this house, the door opened and a man with a big cat mask and shirtless opened came to the street and walked on past me into the night. When he was at the same level with me, I supposed to hear a slight purring and right after a "meow". Astonished I turned around again, because I do not quite believe my ears ... but the figure was gone. At the same time ran out of the house a small boy with acute ascending hair and a completely confused face and began to cry. then he ran on and disappeared into the dark street. The house was absolutely silent and no sound reached my eager listening ear. Sure I had again a glass of red wine drunk too much ... it was just unbelievable. Well, such is Berlin.

Illuminate hause in the country side

Ich war bei Freunden auf dem Lande und kam bei einem abendlichen Spaziergang an diesem beleuchteten Haus vorbei. Alles war normal und wie es sich zur Weihnachtszeit gehört, auch beleuchtet.  Ich sah diese fahle Gelb, der kahle Baum davor, Büsche und Streucher im Hintergrund am Strassenrand. Etwas Schnee auf der Strasse brachte noch einen bläulich kühlen Effekt mit dazu. Dann ging meine Phantasie mit mir durch und in Gedanken entwickelte sich etwas Bedrohliches, etwas nicht Fassbares aus diesem Sujet.


I had visited friends in the country side and during an evening walk I past this illuminated house. Everything was normal and as it should be at Christmas time, also illuminated. I saw this pale yellow, the leafless tree against bushes and Streucher in the background on the roadside. Some snow on the road brought another bluish cool effect with it. Then my imagination went through with me and thought himself something threatening, something more comprehensible developed from this subject.

Am Landwehrkanal in Kreuzberg

Der erste Schnee in diesem Jahr brachten einen Schimmer von Weiß auf  die Bäume und Wege, so dass man einen leichten Eindruck von weißer Winterpracht bekam. Nur dauerte dieses Schauspiel nicht allzu lange.
Heute war alles wieder verschwunden, da die Temperaturen deutlich milder wurden.

A small reminder of the past autumn...

Eine kleine Reminiszenz an den vergangenen Herbst..da es ja doch alles so schnell geht. Es war an einem Sonntag, wo ich wieder mit dem Fahrrad am Teltowkanal unterwegs war. Und dann kam dieser Blick, der mich doch in seinen Bann gezogen hatte. Es lag schon fast etwas Magisches in dieser Ruhe....

A little throwback to the last autumn ... there anyway everything happens so fast. It was on a Sunday, when I was traveling by bicycle on the Teltow Canal again. And then came this view, but had drawn me into its spell. There was almost something magical in this rest ....

Young boy from Kolumbien in Berlin

Manchmal trifft man für einen Augenblick jemanden, um ihn dann kurze Zeit später wieder aus den Augen zu verlieren. Dieser junge Mann aus Kolumbien war über Spanien nach Berlin gekommen, um hier sein weiteres Leben zu planen und über eine Ausbildung ein Studium zu absolvieren. Ich hoffe, dass ihm alles gelingen wird. Die Landschaft im Hintergrund soll etwas an Kolumbien erinnern aber auch als Sinnbild der weiten Welt und der Hoffnung stehen.

Sometimes you meet someone for a moment, and then a short time later to lose him again out of sight. This young man from Colombia had come to Spain to Berlin here to plan his life and pursuing further education on an education. I hope that everything will succeed. The landscape in the background is something to remember Colombia but also as a symbol of the wide world and the hopes in it.

Grüber Erde darübergelegt und von diesem Ton ausgehend weiß gehöht. Mit zwischenlasuren wurde dies so oft wiederholt, bis die Form ausreichend durchgearbeitet war. Nach einem abschließenden Firnisüberzug wurden die Farben teils lasierend, teils deckend mit Haruölfarben aufgetragen.

Overlaid Grüber earth and heightened white starting from this tone. With between glazes This was repeated until the mold was sufficiently worked through. After a final varnish coating colors were partly translucent, partly covering applied with resin oil colors.

A smal young syrien girl....

Dieses kleine syrische Flüchtlingsmädchen, vielleicht in einem Lager im Libanon oder auch in Jordanien, sah mich so herausfordernd von dem Foto an, dass ich sie einfach malen mußte. Damit wird sich sicher nichts an ihren Umständen ändern, aber ich hatte zumindest für den Augenblick das Gefühl etwas getan zu haben.

This small Syrian refugee girl, maybe in a camp in Lebanon or in Jordan, looked at me so challenging from the photo that I had to just paint. For sure nothing will change in their circumstances, but I had to have the feeling of doing something at least for the moment.

The smal islandcemetery - Der kleine Inselfriedhof

Kleine Reminiszenz an den Sommer - der kleine Inselfriedhof auf Hiddensee in Sonnenlicht getaucht. Und eine still stehende Frau vor einer Grabstelle. Über der andächtigen Szene bewegen sich die Bäume leicht im Westwind und die Vögel in den Ästen darüber singen in allen Tonlagen. Eine Begegnung die man so schnell nicht wieder vergisst.

Small reminder of the summer - the small island cemetery on Hiddensee in sunlight dipped. And a resting woman in front of a grave. The trees move about the devotional scene slightly west wind and the birds in the branches above sing in any key. An encounter which can not so soon forget.
